2012 Bass Farms C.S.A. Veggie Disclosure!!

Starting this year and every year after this we will be posting a recap of what was distributed to our member's each season. Almost every box came with multiple's of each item each week. For a drought we fought our way through it and I think it show's below! If you are part of a C.S.A. program and they failed to provide or are thinking about purchasing one, this should be a pretty good gauge to judge off of. This year we had a terrible drought and still gave our member's back their money in Veggie's!!!

Farm Update! Everyone!!

I am writing this farm update to let everyone know that I am sorry for the inconvenience of the store being in our garage this month. The Farm sustained some water damage in the store and we HAD to move it to the garage Until we close for the season on Oct. 31st. The store is getting remodeled to original condition. Once Again, Farm hours this month are Tuesday-Sunday. On a lighter note, the rain we have been receiving is nice. Only if we could have gotten that rain this summer when we really needed it. I am sure the subsoil in this state really enjoyed it! The farm this month has been busy when the weather permits. The weather this month has been on par with how the summer was! Volatile!

C.S.A. Members:

Well I have reviewed all of the Survey's that were returned. I am impressed with how many of you took the time to fill them out. Of the survey's returned, you the member's gave the Farm an average rating of 9.13 for quality of the produce you received. (1-10). Thanks for that rating. We are constantly amending. I want everyone to know that I personally read all of the survey's returned and your comments and answers will help mold the C.S.A. next year. I am also very glad that almost all of you felt you received an adequate value for your dollar. This is great news and gives us the confidence to move forward in our continued belief that their should be options when it comes to where you receive your food.

Common Likes:

  • Member Discount In Store
  • Free Pumpkins
  • Prepackaged Vegetables
  • Professional Staff
  • Membership Card
Common Dislikes:

  • No Green Beans
  • No Carrots
One of the reason we grow so many items on the farm every year is because some items will not come up every year. As many of you know we don't spray pesticides or herbicides on the vegetables. This year was especially difficult on our carrots and green beans. We did attempt to grow them. The carrots grew at an incredibly slow rate and never developed properly. The green beans grew great and then one day got hammered by the spider mites. These things do happen and I apologize for them. Although that is why we diversify so greatly in the items that we grow on the farm. We want to give you the members the most opportunity to get a great value for your dollar.

News For 2013:

I want everyone to know that the farm can handle a lot more members then 150. That is what we need to be sustainable. This year we had slightly over 100. With our current growth that we have had we should have at-least 150 member's by next year. This is great news! Although I really believe in the C.S.A model. The farm finally has the right tools in it's toolbox to feed a lot of people chemical free food. With your help we can grease the wheels of the system and show other people together that their our great Local Options to Eat! The more members we have, the better the quality of the produce will be, which in turn will make all the members Even happier! This can only HAPPEN with the General public's help! It is extremely expensive to advertise, so If you had a great experience with our C.S.A program tell your friends. Please sign up A.S.A.P because we purchase and plan this fall for next year. It is super easy to sign up online.

Thanks For Reading

Farm Update!!! Everyone!!

Hello,

I am posting a farm update to bring everyone up to date. The farm is doing great. We almost have the whole farm cleaned up from the C.S.A. We have amended three of our growing beds and planted a winter rye over the open soil. A good farmer will never leave the soil bare. The garlic for next year has already arrived and we are going to be planting it soon. It is one of the crops that we plant in the fall and cover with straw. Thanks again to everyone who attended the C.S.A. potluck, it was a great time for the people that were there. Also thanks to the Archery club the hill is Orange and that means it is Pumpkin Season. They helped us pick our patch again this year, at-least the initial picking. They did a great job and picked over ten bins of pumpkins. We are very appreciative for their help again! So for the month of October their will be a ton of fun things going @ the farm. The Slingshot has been constructed and is super fun. I even had fun shooting it, so adults don't be shy! Also I finished baling the waterway. With the bales that we made we constructed a hay-bale maze in the waterway. This is done and ready to go! All of the fun stuff to do @ the farm is free! So come out and get your pumpkin and enjoy the farm. Some of the items that should be available for the rest of the month are Winter Squash, Pumpkins, Gourds, Hay. Also the store is fully stocked and ready to go. Their is still plenty of meat left in the cooler. So we have the items that you will want in October!!!!! Also many of our Gluten Free Meals are still on sale. They are 4 for $20. This is a GREAT DEAL!! So if you need any be sure to stock up. I am also pouring one massive batch of Pumpkin Spice Candle's. They will be 90% soy wax and 10% bee's wax. They will be excellent in quality and will start @ $10. The wax is from our hives off the farm.

Thanks For Reading! Hope To See You This Month!
