General Farm Update/Crop Report.

Crops look surprisingly well, with the heat and all the wind. Melons continue to ripen. Tomato's are ripening. We will have the first of the tomato's in this week's box, as well as cherry tomatoes. The eggplant are slowly but surely coming and we will have those in this week's box as well. The little green peppers that we distribute, are Habanero pepper's and they are extremely hot. So PLEASE be careful when handling & thoroughly wash hands before and after coming in contact with the Habanero pepper. The oil on the pepper can cause irritation to the eye's. For all of the pick-up members the herb bed that is right in front of the building is for you. We planted many wonderful herbs. They are ready to be picked. They are labeled. Some of the herbs that are in the bed are basil, sage, epazote, green fennel, thyme, and their is also lots of mint. Their is chocolate mint, candy mint, & plain mint. You can pick them when you pick up your box. Back to crops...the fall crops are looking good. The pumpkins are developing nicely, as well as the squash and the brussels so far look great. We have been working on lots of different tasks around the farm lately mostly weeding-pulling, snapping, twisting, and more weeding. LOL...The waterway's that we set up this spring have worked great. We finally got a chance to test them;) This means that next year our garden plots are already established with proper waterway's and drainage. Their is a total of five garden plots in the front. We will be rotating our crops every year. On a lighter note the compost pile has been doing extremely well in this heat. We have what I would call ultra-compost. It is going to spread extremely well this fall. Also our second crop of cucumbers is starting to come on. Crazy I know more cucumbers. We are still picking off the first planting. Martin who works @ the farm here lives in Ely. He just started going to the Ely Farmer's Market. If you know anyone who lives in Ely please let your friends know we will have a table their on Tuesday's & Saturday's. Your support is greatly appreciated. Oh also the onions. They are growing SLOWLY. So be patient, we will pick another round of scallions this week to stave off our cravings for the onions. We planted them in the dirt instead of our plastic beds and they are not growing nearly as fast as I would have liked. This week's box will be great!!! I will post the exact items later this week.

Thz Chris
