C.S.A. Week 6!!! Items/Farm Update

Hello from the farm,

We have been extremely busy on the farm as usual. Recently our job has been just tending the plant's & weeding. We weeded out the entire front field. It took around 4 days. It looks great and everything is growing nicely. We also started to plant in the expanded herb bed today. We transplanted loads of little herb plants into the ground. The weather has finally started to cool. This is extremely exciting for all us that are in the field everyday. We are able to work so much more efficiently when it is not 110 out. This week C.S.A box looks nice.

Items:

Potato's
Sweet Corn
Mixed Peppers
Cabbage (Small to Medium)
Garlic
Zuc's
Cucumber's

*Their is some Kale left, but not enough for everyone. We will pick the additional Kale in the morning tomorrow. If anyone really like's Kale be sure to use a C.S.A punch on it. (Your Membership Card) We probably have 50 bag's that will be picked. Kale doe's regrow so hopefully we will get more of this again later.

As the season progresses we put some crops to bed until next year. Kohlrabi is done for the season. We had a great crop of Kohlrabi this year. Also sad but true the broccoli is done for the year as well. This crop also did very well for us. Radishes we reseeded but the first batch was just so so. This was due to the EXTREME heat that they were trying to grow in. One of the beauties of being part of a C.S.A. is being connected to the land, literally. Ultimately mother nature's power dictates how the veggie's are going to be.

Last but not least, I want to talk about bugs. This year has been a really trying year on the farm for bugs. We are already at a disadvantage because we don't spray. I am sure many of you have seen the beetle's zooming around your neighborhood as well. One of the reason's that this year is particularly "buggy" is because of this past winter. As all of you know it was very mild. We did not get the temperature's we needed to naturally kill off some of the insect population.

Thanks For Reading,

Chris Bass
