Typical Day For Vegetable Farmer @ Bass Farms

So I am going to try and explain a day at the farm as a vegetable farmer. Everyone who works on the farm is @ the farm by 6. a.m. We get their early to stave off some of the heat. First thing we do when we get to work is turn on the irrigation system. We walk & check the row's. Then we will start picking the vegetables that we are preparing for the Week's C.S.A. We pick items that have the longest shelf life on Tuesday and put it in the cooler, and we pick the rest of the items on Wednesday & Thursday for the C.S.A. boxes.

On top of the normal picking duties their are also the farm duties. These also get done each week.

  • Check Irrigation Fittings Weekly
  • Cleaning Cooler's that store Fresh veggies (10x16) in size.
  • Mow the entire Farm
  • Water the Herb Bed
  • Pick Weeds
  • Mow the pepper patch
  • Cultivate between vegetable rows
  • Blow the Front & Back
  • Constantly monitoring soil moisture and plant health.
Also we are constantly reseeding, tilling, laying new plastic all the time. We use some space on the farm multiple times with multiple crops. These are just a few of the tasks that take place each week, on the farm. Their are few weeks where I work less than 70 hours.
